On Saturday, October 4, 2008, the Humane Society opened the doors to the new Holly Miller Center* for Animal Welfare in Douglassville, PA. The Miller Center brings needed adoption and veterinary wellness services to the Eastern Berks/Western MontCo/Northern ChesCo area.

The three phase project began with cat, small animal and exotics adoption services and veterinary services to our adopters and to the general public.  Phase three will complete the facility with a full dog adoption center.

We hope that you will join us if you are considering adopting, volunteering, taking advantage of our top quality veterinary services, or just want to stop by and say, "Hi!", to the animals.  The Holly Miller Center might be a little different than what you expect from an animal shelter, and you'll notice the difference as soon as you drive up to the 1750s stone Berks Historic Register building which houses the Miller Center (above right).

Once inside, you'll immediately get a sense of the "boutique" feel of the place (ain't we fancy?) as you enter our veterinary and adoption reception (above left).  Check out some Furry Friday art on your way to our Cat and Small Animal Adoption Centers.

Of course, the holidays are sneaking up on us so you'll want to stop into our HSBC retail shop (right) with cool HSBC hats, sweat, short and long sleeved tees, exclusive Adrienne Trafford "Spike" accessories and more!  This area will soon be converted into our surgical and recovery suite, so check it out while you still can!

After you've picked up a cool shirt or two, you will make your way to our adoption centers.  Visit the small animals, birds and exotics (above left) in the one adoption center (haven't you always wanted a guinea pig or a pigeon?).  Then, head over to the cat center and scope out the super keen kitty condos (right) with cats and kittens just waiting for you to take them home.

Not ready to adopt?  Then just pull up a comfy chair and take a load off with a cup of complimentary coffee.  If you work in the area and brown bag it, bring your lunch with you.  The animals like company!  Keep checking back as we open more and more of the facility with expanded vet and dog adoption services!
